Pugneys Country Park
Pugneys Country Park is a 250 acre site that used to be an open cast mine, as well as a sand and gravel quarry, before it was turned into a country park in 1985 and all ready for you to explore with the kids today! This scenic and expansive park has 2 beautifully clear lakes and a modern water sports centre which is open all year and free to visit.
You can hire equipment or bring your own craft to use on the larger lake, whilst the smaller lake is a nature reserve and permits no entry to the waters.
The larger lake is a whopping 100 acres and offers wind surfing, canoeing and kayaking, and sailing. Water sport courses are available to book. There is a 1.6 mile track around this lake that is overlooked by Sandal Castle, and suitable for the whole family to enjoy a relaxed stroll. The smaller lake is only 24 acres, and this Nature Reserve has 2 cool bird hides to allow you to watch the local wildlife undisturbed.
