Chard Museum
Chard Museumin converted 16th century listed buildings and outbuildings, covering nearly an acre, with collections of exhibits about local history and displays related to the lives of notable local residents.
You can also visit the horse powered apply crusher in The Cider Room, plus a collection of domestic items and plumbing equipment, more costumes, gramophones and 1960s costumes in The New Inn. Meanwhile Skittle Alley is a former forge with collections from traditional wheelwrights, blacksmiths and carpenters.
The main new displays variously feature WW1 memorabilia; a history of Chard roads, railways and canals; archive photographs; model aircraft and heritage models; Donyatt pottery; Chard Carnival costumes and lots more besides! The carnival costumes have been used for over 35 years on several local circuits so are genuinely authentic and will be recognisable to to regular attendees of the festival.
