Bluebell Hill Picnic Site
Bluebell Hill Picnic Site, tucked inside the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, forms part of the 10km stretch of chalk escarpment between Wouldham and Detling that has been classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

It boasts a range of terrain including woodland, scrub and chalk grassland so there’s a terrific range of insect and bird life to be spotted if you fancy a mini beast safari, such as dingy skipper; grizzled skipper; chalk hill blue and brown argus butterflies!
Junior botanists are in for a treat too as there are an unusual number of rare plant species to be found here all with somewhat wonderful names, including the bulbous buttercup, salad burnet, hairy violet, meadow velching, false brome grass, bee orchid, wood sage and wild strawberry (which are safe to eat if you find and clean, though you’re discouraged from harvesting the lot!) are all found in the area.

Admission:
No entry fees!

Opening Times:
Year round daylight access. 9am to dusk or 9pm. Whichever is earlier.
