As Scotland’s leading independent cinema, Filmhouse is internationally renowned as a venue for dynamic programming and debate and is the most successful outside the BFI Southbank, formerly the National Film Theatre, in London. Our key aim is to challenge, inform and entertain through the delivery of an essential, intelligent and enlightening programme for all audiences.
At Filmhouse we are committed to Education both formal and informal. In the area of formal education, Filmhouse works with primary and secondary school pupils and teachers and Tertiary and Higher Education students and lecturers. The programme includes special morning screenings often with discussion and worksheets; outreach illustrated talks linked to relevant curriculum or course; tours of the cinema; teacher in-service and CPD meetings and seminars; advice and support groups for teachers and students of Media, Film or Cultural Studies, alongside other disciplines. Special school events are also organised in conjunction with all the various Festivals throughout the year.
