The National Trust - Baddesley Clinton
‘A place to come back to,’ The National Trust’s Baddesley Clinton is now open all year. Explore the magic of the moated Tudor house. Enjoy the freedom of the surrounding countryside, drop in for tea and watch the changing seasons. There are so many reasons to visit; enjoy the fresh air on the estate walks, treat yourself to lunch or afternoon tea in the Barn Restaurant, see the changing seasons in the gardens, visit the beautiful moated manor house, browse in the gift shop or simply find a quiet spot and relax. With all this and a varied events programme, Baddesley Clinton is truly a place to come back to. A Picturesque medieval moated manor house and garden. This atmospheric house dates from the 15th century and was the home of the Ferrers family for 500 years. The house and interiors reflect its heyday in the Elizabethan era, when it was a haven for persecuted Catholics – there are three priest’s holes. Explore our cosy rooms in this Tudor timber framed home and discover how generations of the Ferrers family lived in isolated splendour within its moat. Gaze out at our intimate gardens through windows beautifully decorated with stained glass heraldry and imagine how you would live at Baddesley. Our ancient panelled walls are covered in beautiful portraits of the Ferrers family and their friends, many the work of Rebecca Dulcibella Orpen. Baddesley’s walls are festooned with her decorative Heraldic shields, each depicting a Ferrers connection from the distant past. Just dropping in? Where better to enjoy catching up with friends or family? You can now pop in all year round and you never know what you might discover. It’s a great place to enjoy the seasons alongside a cup of tea or a tasty lunch using our home grown produce. Visiting with children? The magic of the moat, the stories of priest hunters and the freedom of the surrounding countryside means there’s something for everyone. A bit of imagination goes a long way – you can take part in seasonal activities or you can explore and discover your own fun. Come and explore the gardens at Baddesley from the walled garden to the vegetable patch. See if you can spot any fish in the stew ponds or even carp in the murky moat waters. There’s also the nature trail through the woodland, what wildlife will you spot on your visit to Baddesley? Come and enjoy a day out at Baddesley Clinton, bring the whole family to take part in a variety of trails, activities and outdoor games throughout the year. We offer all sorts of activities for children including an easter activity tent and a family hub throughout the summer. Want to get up close and personal? Baddesley Clinton has a history of being a place to hide, whether Catholic priests in fear if their lives or the Victorian ‘Quartet’ in search of privacy. Satisfy your curiosity with tours and talks and enjoy the beauty and relaxation of the gardens. Baddesley Clinton is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Take a gentle walk across the fields, lanes and canal paths surrounding the property then pop into the Barn restaurant for a welcome rest and some refreshment.
