Description
The Castle was built by William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry, on to a much earlier Castle, between 1679 and 1691. In 1810, the 3rd Duke of Buccleuch inherited Drumlanrig through his grandmother, Lady Jane Douglas, daughter of the 2nd Duke of Queensberrry, who married Francis, 2nd Duke of Buccleuch, thereby uniting the families of Montagu, Douglas and Scott.
