Buckfast Butterflies & Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary - Buckfastleigh
Buckfast Butterflies and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary offers a great, enjoyable, otter and butterfly educational experience. Wander around the otter sanctuary and butterfly farm and see new butterflies emerge in tropical surroundings. See the otters swimming underwater in specially built glass enclosures. Follow the otter keeper around at feeding times. Learn about the otter, its recreational and family life whatever the weather. Online Shopping is here as well, so visit our shop for lots of great otter and butterfly gift ideas. We now also offer a joint Otter Experience perfect for otter lovers.

The Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary has been carefully designed to provide our resident otters with the best possible conditions and our visitors excellent opportunities to see and enjoy them. We also have facilities for the treatment of any sick or injured otters that may be brought to us. It is hoped that having seen and enjoyed our resident otters, and been given an insight into their secret way of life, visitors will be more aware of the plight of otters world-wide, particularly of course our own native British Otter Lutra lutra.
The Butterfly Farm and Otter Sanctuary is situated just outside the southern border of Dartmoor National Park between Exeter and Plymouth and is easily reached just off the A38 Devon Expressway at the Dart Bridge junction.
The Butterfly Farm and Otter Sanctuary is now  open daily from 10.00am until 5.00pm every day until the end of October.

Feeding times at 11.30am and 2.00pm and 4.00pm are the best times to see and enjoy the otters.

We regret dogs are not permitted  (the otters go bonkers!)
However we have a large car park with shady areas (come early) and a lovely walk beside the river Dart where your dog can run and swim. Your ticket allows re entry throughout the day giving you the opportunity to leave someone with your dog at all times while it remains outside.

While you are here why  not enjoy a ride on the South Devon Steam Railway and visit the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, discounted combined day tickets are available. Further details please look at the "Making the most of your visit" page on this website.
